Meet Dr. Thornton

A steady presence for individuals, couples and families.

Andrea A. Thornton, Ph.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist who has practiced in the Los Angeles area for more than twenty-five years, working with adults, couples and families through the moments that ask the most of them.

Her work is grounded in the belief that lasting change happens inside a relationship that feels safe. Sessions are collaborative, direct when directness helps, and always paced to what you are ready to look at.

The practice is based in Burbank and serves clients across greater Los Angeles, with telehealth sessions available for those who prefer to meet from home.

Starting therapy

How the process works

Beginning therapy should not feel like a mystery. Here is exactly what happens from your first message to your first session and beyond.

01

First, we connect

You send a note or call the office. We speak briefly by phone so you can describe what is going on and ask anything you would like about how I work.

02

Next, we meet

The first sessions are for understanding your history, your current life and what you hope will be different. Together we decide on a direction and a rhythm for our work.

03

Working together

We usually meet weekly. Some people come for a focused period of months, others stay longer. We review progress openly so the work always belongs to you.

04

Payment

Fees are discussed clearly before we begin. Payment is due at the time of each session, and a statement can be provided for out-of-network insurance reimbursement.

Take the first step

A confidential conversation is where the work begins.

Reaching out can feel like the hardest part. Send a note or call the office and we will find a time to talk about what brings you here.

Shared with permission and published anonymously to protect the privacy of everyone who walks through the door.

I had been carrying the same anxiety for years and assumed it was just who I was. Dr. Thornton helped me understand where it came from, and for the first time it loosened its grip.
Individual client, Los Angeles
She is warm without ever being vague. I always left our sessions knowing what we had looked at and why it mattered.
Individual client, Burbank
We came in having the same argument for a decade. Dr. Thornton showed us what was underneath it, and we finally started talking to each other again.
